Project Bill Rates can be assigned to project roles or directly to project team members (for projects that don't use roles). In order to edit a project and set bill rates, you must have access to the project and also have the Edit project permission set on your security role.
For projects with the Time & Materials billing type, bill rates are required in order to generate revenue as time is tracked. For projects with a billing type of Fixed Fee, Fixed Monthly, or Non-Billable, bill rates can be set but are not required, although there are several advantages to configuring bill rates on Fixed Fee and Fixed Monthly projects.
Rates by Project Role
If a project has been set up to use roles, the Roles tab (Figure 1) on the Edit project drawer is where bill rates get assigned to those roles. When a project uses roles, bill rates are never assigned directly to project team members. An advantage of using roles is that a single project team member can bill at different rates on the project by being assigned to different roles.
At the top of the list of roles, there is a filter that allows you to switch between active and inactive roles. By default, only active roles are shown. If a project has been in motion for a long time, it could have several inactive roles.
To set the bill rate for each role, simply click the edit icon on the right end of the row and type in the bill rate.

Note that non-billable roles will be shown on the Roles tab but you cannot set a bill rate for non-billable roles.
Visit the Project Roles article in the Ruddr Help Center for more on how to leverage and manage roles.
Rates by Project Team Member
If a project is not set up to use roles, project bill rates can be assigned to individual team members via the Team tab (Figure 2) of the Edit project drawer. The rate for each project team member can be set by clicking on the edit icon on the right end of the row.

For any non-billable team members, you can simply uncheck the Billable checkbox for that row.
Bill Rates on Fixed Fee Projects
While not required, bill rates can be configured on Fixed Fee and / or Fixed Monthly projects, in either of the ways illustrated above. There are several benefits to setting up bill rates on these projects:
Time and Materials Basis
Ruddr will keep up with, and report on, the Time and Materials Basis of Fixed Fee projects. The Time and Materials Basis is the accumulation of fees (hours * bill rate) of any billable hours logged on the project, provided those billable hours have been logged by a member with a bill rate or the hours are associated with a project role with a bill rate. The Time and Materials Basis is presented on both the Progress view and the By Month view of the Services Revenue graph (Figure 3) on the project dashboard.
Figure 3 - The Grey Line on the Services Revenue Graph Represents the Time and Materials Basis of a Fixed Fee Project
In addition to the Time and Materials Basis on the Services Revenue graph, you can find the calculated hours * bill rate fees on the Hourly Revenue by Client and Project report that is found in the Financial reports section of Ruddr.
Fixed Revenue Recognition and Fixed Fee Revenue Attribution
On Fixed Fee / Fixed Monthly projects, you have options with regards to how revenue is recognized. One of the fixed fee revenue recognition methods is Automated - Percentage of Time and Materials Revenue. This recognition method requires that bill rates have been configured on Fixed Fee projects.
Additionally, you can choose from one of two revenue attribution methods on Fixed Fee projects. One of these methods is Percentage of Time and Materials Revenue. This method also requires bill rates to be leveraged on Fixed Fee projects.
